Your squad has been assigned to go in first, sneak to the front without getting caught, and bust open the front gate with an explosive.
Once the gate is open, go inside and hold the line. Hundreds of soldiers are waiting for you to open the gate so they can begin to storm the palace!

21:40. The cruiser Aurora has fired the signal. You and six comrades, one carrying the red banner, start at the General Staff arch. Cross the square, stay out of the searchlights, and blow open the main gates of the Winter Palace. Then fight your way through the state rooms to the ministers of the Provisional Government.
Searchlights sweep the square from the palace roof and from the Guards Headquarters on the east side. One second in a beam and you are spotted, and the whole squad has to start again from the arch. Crouch behind the firewood stacks and let the beam pass over you.
